Walk & Talk Therapy

Also known as Ecotherapy, these sessions are held in an outdoors setting. The proven benefits of nature and healing for Mental Health have been growing rapidly over the last few years. Many people find it easier to talk about their emotions whilst outdoors, compared to being in an office environment.

The structure of the session works exactly the same as sitting in a room or at a computer for Therapy.

If you find the idea of being in a Doctors room intimidating or you don't feel you will get the connection you require from a video call session, why not consider this style of therapy?

Do I have to be fit / healthy for this therapy?

The walks are only for the duration of an hours session and will be at a leisurely pace. Rest stops can be factored into the walk, utilising benches if and when required. This style of therapy works best with woodland or park walks, anything too strenuous such as a big mountain hike and the mind focuses more on the challenge of reaching the summit then processing trauma or emotions. The route will be created to the clients needs and abilities.

Will strangers hear us talking / will it be confidential?

Although locations will be chosen in public places, the conversation will be private between yourself and your therapist. Just as you wont hear in-depth conversations from others whilst out walking, people will not here clearly what you discuss. Conversations are kept to a specific tone to minimise anything being overheard, which might prevent clients from being able to talk freely. Routes and locations are planned for allowing a client to feel safe, whilst also free to discuss what they need to.

Will we be in a safe location?

All locations will be in public places, with an agreed meeting location (which will usually be the finish location) most will have parking spaces and toilet facilities. Client safety and comfort is at the centre of selecting locations and details will be provided to the client prior to the session.

What will I need to wear / bring?

Comfortable clothing for walking and a pair of comfortable shoes. You are welcome to bring any drinks or snacks that you feel you may require during the session. Your therapist will advise you of any weather requirements before the session, where you may need to bring waterproof clothing or an umbrella.
